Integrated Care Pathway
Aligned but separate coaching and counseling services
When Both Coaching and Counseling Make Sense
Some individuals benefit from both licensed counseling and leadership coaching. These services address different but complementary dimensions of human flourishing:
- Counseling addresses clinical and mental health needs, trauma, and emotional healing
- Coaching focuses on leadership development, relational skills, and missional clarity
Key Principles of Integrated Care
Complete Separation
Counseling and coaching records are legally and ethically separate. Information is not shared without explicit written consent.
Ethical Coordination
If both services are engaged, the providers work with awareness of the other service, with consent and appropriate boundaries.
Autonomy
Participation in coaching does not require counseling, and vice versa. Both are optional and independent.
Complementary Focus
Counseling addresses clinical needs. Coaching addresses leadership growth. Both support overall flourishing.
How Integrated Care Works
Independent Intake
If interested in both services, you complete separate intake processes for counseling and coaching. Each service maintains its own records.
Explicit Consent
If you want both providers to coordinate, you provide written consent for them to communicate about your general progress and goals (not clinical details).
Separate Records
Counseling records remain with the licensed counselor and are protected under HIPAA and clinical confidentiality. Coaching records are separate.
Referral Option
Either provider may recommend that you explore the other service if they sense it would be beneficial. You maintain complete autonomy in accepting any referral.
Ongoing Communication
With your consent, providers may share non-clinical updates (e.g., "Client is progressing in coaching") but never clinical details, diagnoses, or treatment information.
What's Never Shared Between Services
Counseling details that remain confidential to the counselor:
- •Diagnoses, treatment plans, or clinical assessments
- •Specific symptoms, trauma history, or mental health details
- •Medications, medication management, or medical recommendations
- •Crisis history, self-harm risk, or other risk assessments
- •Personal disclosures made in counseling sessions
